Richard reflects on 50+ years caring for wildlife

Setting up New Zealand’s first centre for conservation medicine, helping to breed the rarest duck in the world and caring for kākāpō on their sanctuary islands – Richard Jakob-Hoff’s extensive career has always been focused on conserving and understanding more about wildlife. In our latest episode reflecting on the Zoo’s centenary year, Richard looks back on his 30+ years at Auckland Zoo and highlights a few of the incredible conservation-focused projects he’s been a key part of during this time.

Our incredible visitors are at the heart of our 100-year journey – with the Zoo being a much-loved place for generations of Kiwis over the decades.

This is a space where you can share your memories of the zoo with us over the years, and with our wider communities. Start digging out your scrapbooks and old photo albums and see what treasures you can find!

Be in to win: throughout the year we’ll be selecting photos to share on our social channels with one special entry being chosen each month to receive an awesome zoo prize.

Share them with us on Instagram with the hashtag #AucklandZoo100 or by uploading your photos or written memories, here. We’d also love to know which of your friends and whānau are in the photos and when they were taken.
