100 Year Exhibition
Our 100 year exhibition celebrates a century of wild life!
On our centenary, 16 December, we open our exhibition 100 Years: Celebrating a century of wild life at Auckland Zoo – proudly supported by Barfoot & Thompson.
Open to all Auckland Zoo visitors, this dynamic experience in the Zoo’s exhibition space, The Domes, offers a rich and colourful journey into the Zoo’s past, present and future - featuring photos, video (thanks to supporting partner Panasonic), and fun interactive activities for all ages.
Visitors are invited to share your own favourite Zoo memories – through drawings, photos, and words, take part in physical activities like mindful animal movement, share your own conservation/sustainability goals, and more!
For tamariki, there’s also an activity sheet offering the opportunity to collect stamps around the exhibition and have the chance to win an ice cream – courtesy of supporting partner Tip Top.

- Open Friday 16 December 2022 until 4:30pm, Sunday 16 July 2023.
- Located in The Domes at Auckland Zoo.
- Entry is free with an Auckland Zoo general admission ticket or an Annual Pass Membership.
“We’re properly excited to be celebrating our 100th birthday with our community and to share stories of our past, present and future through this exhibition,” says Auckland Zoo director, Kevin Buley.
“Over the past 10 decades Auckland Zoo has fully metamorphosed – philosophically, physically, and operationally to become the wildlife conservation science organisation we are today. But the one species that has always been a constant throughout our history has been Homo sapiens – humans. Whether it is our staff, our volunteers, our visitors, or our wider community of supporters and partner organisations, it is the people that have brought our Zoo to life and today help to deliver all the excellent and important work that we do for each other and for wildlife,” says Kevin.
“We’re immensely grateful to the many millions of Kiwis and generations of New Zealanders that have connected with us, supported us and have been an integral part of our journey over our lifetime. We could not be Auckland Zoo without you. And as we move into our next century, we look forward to continuing our journey with you as we work together to build a more sustainable future for people and for wildlife.”
Auckland Zoo’s 100th exhibition opens on Friday 16 December 2022 and will run until 17 July 2023. Within the exhibition space, a pop-up shop will offer a selection of special centenary merchandise including the Zoo’s recently released book Auckland Zoo – 100 Years, 100 Stories – with all profits going to support the conservation mahi of the Zoo.
